It's been not only a long time since I've posted here, but it has been a long time since I shared photos of my place. The last time you guys saw where I lived I was still living at home with my parents. It was back in 2012, so easily 4 years ago you saw my collection. Now you can see not only has my… [more]

[Alter] – Melty Review

So since I've moved into my new apartment I still hadn't set up my photography studio. Seems work has me busier than I thought I would ever be, however I took some time this past weekend to set up my studio so I could take some photos of my latest purchase, Alter's 1/8th Melty from Shining Hearts. Now… [more]

[Orchid Seed] – Yuki Review NSFW

Pre-ordered this figure the moment she was released for pre-order. I needed for for multiple reasons, she's sexy/half naked, plus while she's not Sora she reminds me of Sora from Yosuga no Sora! But she's Yuki from Maid Yome and she's pretty amazing. The only issue is her adorable mouth really looks… [more]

Nendoroid Storage Container

I recently went on a trip to a magical place, The Container Store. Ok it's not really magical, but I happen to have discovered a love for organizing my home. I tend to prefer Ikea and Daiso but we went to The Container Store on a whim and I discovered this lovely storage container! I've been needing… [more]

Figure Retailer Review #2 – Anime King

Flickr Link

Went over to Anime King Last Saturday to do another Figure Retailer Review. Was told about this store by many of my commenters in the Last Figure Retailer Review of Small Wonders. Located in Huntington Beach, CA it’s still a bit a away from me, but relatively close to my brother so I went to my brother’s place to spend time and to get him to take me to Anime King for this review!

Flickr Link

It’s a smaller store but they are mainly focused on figures. Unlike most stores i come across that try and do too much at once and focus on comic books, cartoons and pop culture that end up failing. Seems like Anime King knows what they are doing since they’ve been in business since 2000 and have had this location since 2002.

Flickr Link

Some nice figures in the display case.

Flickr Link

Flickr Link

The beautiful GSC 1/8 Rider, i don’t understand why she’d be out of the box and on display really since she’s so rare and being out of the box makes her not Mint and therefor worth less. But then those are just silly details.

Flickr Link

Small section in the back for Gundams, can’t really comment on them since I don’t collect Gundam models. If my Ex were still around he’d be able to tell me, so i could in then tell you, but I’ll just let you look at the pictures instead!

Flickr Link

Flickr Link

I have to say what i like about this store is how the merchandise they have is up to date and current.

Flickr Link

Villetta and Kallen figures, the anime store that used to be in my mall didn’t have anything current at all. I would have done a review of them, but they recently closed.

Flickr Link

Flickr Link

Flickr Link

Some Lovely Max Factory Shining Wind figures, maybe if I have more money I’ll pick them up next time I’m there.

Flickr Link

They have two Shuraki figures, sadly no Char. I would have snatched up Char if they did have her since she’s the only Shuraki i happen to be missing.

Flickr Link

Lovely Alter Kuro No Franco in the corner, have had my eye on her but didn’t snag her since I’m saving up for Anime Expo and hopefully Otakon as well.

Flickr Link

Cute Sega Rin figure, i’ve got my pre-order for the GSC Kagamine Twin set. They’ll go wonderfully with my GSC Miku.

Flickr Link

Lovely Eye up Yoko, they also had a Wave Space Yoko and both versions of the Wave Swimsuit Yoko.

Flickr Link

Look like they’re about to kick some butt.

Flickr Link

Figures everywhere!

Flickr Link

I didn’t even know Max Factory made this Shiranui Mai until i saw her there, still prefer the version i have of her instead.

Flickr Link

Lovely Alter Onee-chan Bara, have been considering picking her up.

Flickr Link

Flickr Link

Klan here caught my eye first, but i already own her, She is such a beauty.

Flickr Link

Freeing Emiri Kimidori, she’s a beauty but 1/4 scale is a bit too big and a bit too pricey for my taste. Unless it were a Yoko, then size and price are no object.

Flickr Link

They keep the “Naughty” figures in the display case the the kiddies can’t get to them. I don’t own any “Naughty” figures like that only because there hasn’t been any that i liked. My Cast Off figures tend to be tasteful and look nice with their clothes on.

Flickr Link

Lots of Gashapons and very nice prices on the Manga as well.

Flickr Link

More Gashapons, was never really a fan of them. They seemed more like Toys to me than figures.

Flickr Link

Some dolls, wonder if they’ll get the Yoko Dolfie in stock?

Flickr Link

A couple of plushies, not the biggest selection of plushies. I try not to get many plushies since i already have so many from when i was little that aren’t anime related and that i just can’t bare to get rid of.

Flickr Link

Oh No! Run for your life! It’s GODZILLA!

Flickr Link

Didn’t really check out the anime selection, I’m not the biggest anime buyer. I spend the majority of my money on figures so I don’t buy as much as i should. They had a few Nendos but nothing i didn’t already have or didn’t want.

Flickr Link

Flickr Link

Flickr Link

While i very much liked the store; no bootlegs, more current selection and newer figures.I would say they are a bit expensive, most figures are priced $5-$15 over Retail value, but then if you consider Shipping with most retailers it’s a good price. If they are in the area it’s a good deal to get figures from Anime King. If not they do have an eBay store where things are priced bit lower. But Mention the eBay store and they’ll give you the price at the store instead. You can also catch them in the exhibit hall at Anime Expo. While personally i have been buying figures in actual stores less and less since I’m tying to avoid impulse buys, it’s hard not to want to come and take a look around when i’m in the area for something that might catch my eye and call me.

    I bought my Primula Nendoroid from them (ebay). A professional Ebay seller!

    I would have a heart attack if this kind of store was within a mile radius from my house! And it looks like it’s in a plaza, too (there are plenty of those around here). Do they sell new or recently released figurines?

  3. mrgetalife says:

    Wow they do it differently on the West Coast. They don’t have anything that large in the NYC area that I know of that has that large of a selection on figures. I even scoured the Orlando area a couple years back and there wasn’t much there either.. Must be lucky having the ports closer to japan.

    I didn’t know Anime King was an actual store. I do get stuff on e-bay from them sometimes.

    And Alter’s Kuro No Franco is a fun one. But you have to get the other two to complete the set 😉 And Miss Nobody is about as hard to get as a Char.

  4. yumyu says:

    No wonder the store sounds so familiar to me, they also have an eBay store.

    @jyuichi:
    they do have a good track record on the eBay store.

    @Vanessa:
    yes they have new and recently released Figurines

    @mrgetlife:
    which is why i’m hesitant to get one since i’ll want the whole set

    @yumyu:
    yep they do

    @OTOhime:
    i didn’t see her there but double check on their eBay store http://stores.ebay.com/VISIT-Anime-King-DOT-Net

    They don’t seem to have her at the ebay store either. Dang it!

  11. JB says:

    I was told everything is an import (I know this is not true). Last figure I bought was labeled as an import on eBay but in fact it was the U.S release (I kinda knew this because of the price). In fairness I also know for fact that they do have a lot of imports as I have seen them attain items 1-2 months after overseas release and many months before any U.S retailer/etailers dates for same item. So yes you have to account for shipping costs if your comparing with say buying from Japan. Sometimes you still save more buying from Japan depending on what items you gang ship to save money. But for the most part with AK your paying the single shipping price per item (that’s usually the price difference your seeing).

    Over all they are good. I can recommend them but also shop around.

    *** The sad thing is figure prices are on the rise in general (for no reason), the new $50 is $80… so I’m buying less.

    @Kanon:
    it’s good they have an ebay store so you can at least be able to get thing from there if you can’t go to the store physically

    @Coco the Bean:
    yes they have an amazon store as well, i almost forgot

    @JB:
    well lots of the figures there were imports, but many Kotobukiya figures within the Us aren’t imports, but in my experience tend to be cheaper and the same quality of the imported Japanese versions

  13. SilverEthereium says:

    Wow! Neat store. I suppose since I’ve always lived in areas sans figure stores, brick and mortar places that you can buy them in are novelties to me. If I visit my cousin over there, I might have to make a detour. Great review!

    Thinking of gong to Otakon? Cool 🙂 I used to live up that way and have gone 4 times. It has alot of stuff to do, although I have to admit to spending way too much time in the dealer room…and consequently way too much money. Many of the cosplayers there do a fantastic job. Hope you can make it!

  14. Miette-chan says:

    I wish I had store like this near me. I checked their ebay store and found quite a bit of out of stock/print figures I want. Now, it’s decision time, new figures I was gonna pick up this week, or older releases I been wanting for a long time.

  15. ravnel says:

    happy you finally reviewed that place. lol i wonder if i can get that 5% discount since they personally know me since im always shopping there.

    FYI:
    They also do a stamp system. For every $20 you spend, you get 1 stamp. In intervals of 10,20 and 30 stamps, you can exchange your stamps for cash. I just recently exchanged 30 stamps for $45.

    And yea, definitely take advantage of the ebay prices. Just tell them you want the ebay price for figures and they will give it to you. Or if you know any other retail stores or online stores with cheaper prices, they will price match. They give me lots of great customer service.

  16. ravnel says:

    oh yea thanks for the pics. I havnt been there for like a month so I wasnt sure what they had in stock, even though i check their ebay store on a weekly basis. Definitely saw some figures I may want to get from your pics.

  17. Dancing Queen says:

    @SilverEthereium:
    yeah i tend to overspend at Anime Expo, so it’ll be hard to save up for Otakon but hopefully i can make it happen this year

    @Miette-chan:
    i end to go for the older figures i’ve been looking for, unless the new ones are figures that might sell out fast

    @ravnel:
    oh that’s some awesome information, i didn’t know of that system at all, also glad the pictures helped out!

  18. Figure Maniac Edwin says:

    I didn’t know Anime King was there for so long. They must be doing better than I thought. It was dead when I went there, but I figured they had to be doing well to have so many figures. So someone is buying them.

  19. Figure Maniac Edwin says:

    You should check out Frank n Sons in City of Industry. Lots of hidden treasures there. Toylet and Orbit Anime are near there too.

  20. Blowfish says:

    I wondered about the GSC Rider aswell…Im astonished that they display this many figures unboxed.Maybe its just me but they tend to get uninteresting for me after they were unboxed.

    I cant believe that they display the godawful Sonsaku Hakufu figure in the shelf.Shes painted horrible and looks like shes taking a pee while standing >.<

    I really like anime king because i live in Ireland and there international shipping is really cheap onlt $15-$19 where as most US figure shops on ebay charge $30-$35 for the same shipping method . They also have some hard to find figures at good prices

  23. OTOhime says:

    Thanks for the link DQ but, (I don’t have much money right now anyway >_<)

  24. JB says:

    @Dancing Queen. I don’t think their is any quality difference for the figures, but sometimes box markings are different. However that’s not a deal breaker considering a US release price would be less.

    Kotobukiya is unpredictable with US release dates though. The figure I mention above was one, I could have bought her at AK about 1.2 year ago when the had it as an import. The figure was $20 more then.

  25. Dancing Queen says:

    @Figure Maniac Edwin:
    oh thanks for the recommendations, i’ll check them out then too!

    @Blowfish:
    yeah not all the best figures were in the display case

    @mememo:
    low shipping costs are always good

    @OTOhime:
    aww, well hopefully you can find her again

    @JB:
    yeah bu then i honestly don’t buy many kotobukiya figures since their quality isn’t always that good

  26. JB says:

    @Dancing Queen: overall I have to agree, most kotobukiya figures are sub par compared to other companies in quality.

    I look forward to your review if you get out to Toylet.
