It's been not only a long time since I've posted here, but it has been a long time since I shared photos of my place. The last time you guys saw where I lived I was still living at home with my parents. It was back in 2012, so easily 4 years ago you saw my collection. Now you can see not only has my… [more]

[Alter] – Melty Review

So since I've moved into my new apartment I still hadn't set up my photography studio. Seems work has me busier than I thought I would ever be, however I took some time this past weekend to set up my studio so I could take some photos of my latest purchase, Alter's 1/8th Melty from Shining Hearts. Now… [more]

Pre-ordered this figure the moment she was released for pre-order. I needed for for multiple reasons, she's sexy/half naked, plus while she's not Sora she reminds me of Sora from Yosuga no Sora! But she's Yuki from Maid Yome and she's pretty amazing. The only issue is her adorable mouth really looks… [more]

Nendoroid Storage Container

I recently went on a trip to a magical place, The Container Store. Ok it's not really magical, but I happen to have discovered a love for organizing my home. I tend to prefer Ikea and Daiso but we went to The Container Store on a whim and I discovered this lovely storage container! I've been needing… [more]

TNT GT3 ’09 Con Coverage/D.F. Trip

Had planned to go to the TNT GT3 2009 for three days but i ended up only going the last day. Saturday i got sick, really sick! I spent all Friday night hugging the toilet and puking my guts out. When they say don’t drink the water they mean it! It always happens to me, i drink something while out that has been made with tap water and i get super sick. Last time I was in Merida I drank Lemonade and i got sick for an entire day. This time it was Horchata, which was really good but ended up making me pretty sick in the end. So Saturday we ended up staying in the entire day.

Later that night i got to meet up with my cousin Marisol. It’s me in the pink, Marisol in the blue (aint she adorable?) On my left it’s Alberto or Beto for short and on the right it’s Rodrigo. The boys are brother’s and my aunt’s sons and Marisol is my uncle’s daughter. While i missed the con for the day seeing spending time at the bar with my cousin’s just chilling was just so awesome. The next day i assumed we’d go to the con but instead we went to Teotihuacan shown in the first picture of the post.

Finally we got to the con on Monday the last day and my mind was blown. Tickets were $70 pesos which was about $4USD. Not a bad price at all. First thing i noticed was a booth with some very nasty figures. When i say nasty i meant oh boy they were bad. Not sure if they were made by that person or what but just look at poor Yoko’s face. Now that’s officially a Yoko figure I won’t own.

There were tons of booths that sold plenty of Comic book, video game and movie characters. Nothing that really interested me but i was still surprised at the diversity of stuff there.

I will admit i’ve never seen so many bootleg figures in one place. I didn’t see one Original Nendoroid there the entire con and I felt bad for the poor souls who may have bought them and didn’t know. But then no one listened to me when i told them they were fake, like as if they didn’t care at all. I mean how is it possible that every booth had four or five boxes of the Wonfes Haruhi Bunny Nendos when they are impossible to get?

The artist alley was pretty meager and didn’t have much to offer, there was a small stage for karaoke but no one was singing so we didn’t stay. Also there was a small room that was showing Real Drive dubbed in Spanish. Totally love a con that shows fansubs! Also walking through the Exhibit hall part it was hard to avoid seeing snippets of my favorite shows like how so many were playing Gundam 00 ep 17.

A cute Sakura Cosplayer, she seemed so happy that i wanted to take her picture gut her friends were making such fun of her when i did ask. Poor thing.

Had to take a picture of a fellow Amu cosplayer, i didn’t go in cosplay as in that neither did i have luggage space nor did i know how people would treat me if i had to walk around mexico in full on amu cosplay.

When i saw this i lol’d so freaking hard, they wrote Suzumiya the way it would have been spellt in Spanish since Double L is like Y for those of you who don’t know.

Lots of booths had stuff dedicated to Mario. i wish i got a star but i ran out of money by the time i saw this booth.

Seemed like they enjoyed the same main favorites we enjoy here in the US. Lots of Dragonball, Lots of Cowboy Bebop. Oh boy are they huge Narutards, I’ve never seen so many Naruto fans in one place, not even at Anime Expo.

This booth had plenty of Domo-Kun stuff but it didn’t seem like they really understood what he was even from and just bought him cause he had a silly face and was from japan.

Sadly i didn’t take as many pictures as i wanted of the con because halfway through some guy comes up and tells me they have a no camera policy and i have to stop taking pictures. Which really is the stupidest thing i’ve ever heard, but i wasn’t about to argue with the man and get my camera taken away. The con was fun but at the same time was really just a big exhibit hall. They did have a section for bands to play but they were terrible cover bands who couldn’t sing in Japanese at all unlike Makenai, (But then i think Makenai is pretty awesome.) The other bands were bad Visual Key bands who couldn’t sing. So the concerts part wasn’t worth spending any time seeing. Oh and since we went on the last day I’m guessing Megumi Ogata had left by then cause she was nowhere to be seen, and i really wanted her autograph as well. i would have to say the con was awesome but i don’t think I’d make the trip again just for the con. When i’ve got Anime Expo so close there isn’t really anything about it to make me ant to come back. But if i did live in Mexico I wouldn’t miss it for anything. I would just make sure you know how to spot a Bootleg figure before going or you’ll end up wasting your money. I did however find a booth that had all original figures and i ended up snagging something something amazing, for an amazing price! Which you’ll find out what she is tomorrow once i post my review!

    that yoko figure looks so bad that I actually felt sick when I saw it. no camera policy at an anime con, WTF?

    @Otaku Dan:
    i have never heard of such a thing of no cameras allowed at a con but then i didn’t really want to argue with the man so i just put it away.

  3. Claudette says:

    I forgot so say in my other post about the bootlegs, it´s pretty common. I feel sorry for the people that pay for that bootlegs like they´re original.

    I don´t like to bought merchandise in conventions here in Mexico because like 90% are fake, plus the sellers don´t know anything about the the series or characters (like with Domo), they only sale the merchandise because they´re going to earn money, I hate that.

    About the Narutards it was something to be expected because mexican public tv is airing Naruto right now, the sad thing it´s that they´re only airing 56 chapters in an eternal cycle.

    Being an otaku in mexico it´s a life-dead mission.

    omg it’s the Sader of Gurren Lagann 😮 Never thought something on par with that figure would be made of Yoko :/ no camera policy fails. bootlegs and that Yoko make me cry 😡

    Hi! I read about the Yoko figure in DannyChoo.
    Looks like a custom figure made in “masilla” or something like that.

    By the way, greetings from a venezuelan girl.

    Ofcourse they have a no-camera policy with all those bootleg stuff around :P.
    No for real, I feel disappointed. Disappointed to find a no-camera policy (free commercial) and to hear about the bootleg items.
    Shouldn’t a ‘good’ con check all the sellers items prior the opening?

    @Claudette:
    i assumed i’d find fakes but didn’t expect to see so many, out of the entire con to only find one booth that sold genuine figures, i was stunned to say the elast

    @Persocom:
    so Yoco?

    @Saouri:
    hello Venezualan girl! Yeah i could tell they were custom but still, that face is just so off. i honestly understand the body, some people find it attractive (not me) but her face is juts so terrible, how can they think she looks good?

    @Hirvine:
    a good con would check for things like that, and a good con would have the program scheduled before the actual day of the con, a good con would have had pricing listed on the website and better directions. but no one said this was a good con, but if you live in mexico and it’s all you got, then i’d take it

  8. Rin says:

    WOW…so a lot of fakes huh…
    Becareful when buying in conventions you don’t know much about…
    For example, I went to a convention in Hong Kong…I was careful when buying figures but the good thing is most of them were real.
    I have never heard of a convention which you are not allowed to take pictures…
    Every convention I went to they all allowed photos…

  9. Figure Maniac says:

    Wow, that is a nice insight to what cons are like other countries besides Japan. No camera policy sucks. After the guard leaves, I continue to take pictures. If I get stopped again. I play dumb and act like I don’t understand their language. LOL.

    It sucks most of the figures were bootleg, but you should kind of expect that. Most people in Mexico can’t afford to buy original figure prices right? They have to enjoy what they got. I feel lucky to be a figure fan in America.

    Great to see the passion of anime in a third world country. Very insightful.

  10. Koshiko says:

    You speak spanish? =o
    I’m from Chile, I don’t see many ‘latino’ fans who aren’t total narutards/dbztards so it’s a pleasant surprise :3

    And omigosh~! You’re totally cute~ x3 I haven’t quite gathered enough nerves to post a picture of myself yet, lol~

    The Nendoroids look fairly authentic if you don’t know much, I go suckered in by a Haruhi one u_u~ But yeah, I do feel for who ever else this happens to >.<;

    “Yoco`s” face reminds me of Popeye the sailor man.Terrible figure!

    The first thing that came to my mind when I saw those Nendo boxes was “fake”.
    I knew it without taking a closer look but all those poor people that got ripped off…
    I havent been to a Con yet so i cant really tell if its equally bad over here in Germany

  12. phossil says:

    I think piracy its a common thing with the uninitiated. at looking at the picture, you are right, the figures arent the official ones (you can tell because of the hair or head), but sure they cost half price (or even less) for an original at retail…

    *Take care better with “aguas frescas” *fresh water*, coz water isnt as fresh as it should.

    phossils last blog post..Tech arrival surprise

  13. Selidor says:

    It’s kind of depressing that someone would go to the trouble of making custom figures, and yet make something that looks so awful. The proportions on most of them are a bit weird, but if the faces hadn’t been so hideous they might have been tolerable at least.

    Selidors last blog post..Quick Layout Change

  14. Dancing Queen says:

    @Rin:
    see and i would honestly expect you to see maybe more bootlegs in hong kong but then maybe fans there can tell the difference, it didn’t seem like many people there knew the difference

    @Figure Maniac:
    well see i didn’t want them to take away my camera as for the fact that it’s my baby

    @Koshiko:
    i considered buying one to maybe compare to a real one, but then it’d be a complete waste of money

    @phossil:
    you could also tell by the fact they were falling apart inside of the box, real nendos don’t do that

    @Selidor:
    if the face wasn’t so bad i’d spring for her

  15. Dartlein says:

    Hola 8D * escribiré en español para poder expresarme bien*

    Cierto es muy triste. las conveciones aqui en mexico estan llenas de pirateria…
    DVD Anime, Figuras etc.

  16. ceasol says:

  17. Dancing Queen says:

    @Dartlein:
    i’d still go just to be around other anime fans, while there were plenty of bootleg stuff if you’re a smart buyer you can avoid it like i did and find rare and amazing figures, like i did! I found an amazing figure that is super hard to find that i’ll be posting a review of today. Oh and Teotihucan is amazing but i wasn’t feeling well so i didn’t go up the pyramid of the sun, but last time i went i did go up it so it’s not like i missed anything

    @ceasol:
    but then i saw yoko last on my trip, but i am feeling queasy having to see it again now ^_~

  18. rotaku says:

    So were you satisfied with the trip? Do you feel it was worth it?

  20. Vanessa says:

    Yoko looks like she gained some weight and it all went to her chin and thighs. That is one fugly figurine!

    And knowing that all those Nendos are bootlegs makes this GS fan weep TT^TT.

    But I’m glad that you had fun with your cousins ^_^.

  21. Bnnto says:

    That’s really sad about all the knock-offs. Reminds me of the anime they sell in China Town in Chicago. -_-;

    They have a “no camera” policy at Comiket as well. The main reason they do it I think is for traffic control. So if you want to take a picture of a cosplayer you have to go to a dedicated area.

  23. Tess says:

    Wow poor Mexico hehe! it seems like we will never get rid of the bad reputation! 🙁
    I guess it’s true that people here just can’t afford to purchase the real stuff, and it’s very easy to get fakes so nobody cares =P

    Oh and too bad you couldn’t take more pics! It would have been fun to see more cosplay! 😀
    I had never heard of that policy either…

  24. Dancing Queen says:

    @rotaku:
    see if her face wasn’t so bad i would have snagged her to be honest, but the face was just so bad, no way i could even consider getting her

    @Lovelyduckie:
    it was totally worth it! I was able to snag an amazing figure during the trip http://howagirlfigures.com/2009/02/04/the-hunt-is-over-max-factory-naru/

    @Vanessa:
    it would be much easier for fans to realize that they were bootleg nendos is only gsc put the Hjapan stickers on them as well

    @Bnnto:
    i understand that for comiket since it’s so huge, but for such a small con it’s ridiculous

    @Tess:
    what i wanted to take pictures of was outsude there were more street vendors selling anime stuff, but it was too dangerous to pull out my camera there sadly

  26. Hi!
    I just discovered your blog while browsing for figure reviews. I really like it! You´ve done an amazing job here! =D

    Anyway, I´m from Mexico, and regarding the TNT, saddly I must admit it´s more like a “tianguis” than a proper convention. =/ The venue sucks, it gets crowded so easily like the subway in rush hour, almost all the merchandise are bootlegs and you can even buy fansubbed anime. U_U! Besides, the merchandise is only from the most popular and mainstream animes, like Naruto. =/

    But I find strange the no camera policy, I´ve been to the TNT plenty of times and nobody said that to me before. Maybe the person who told you off was the owner of a booth, who felt uncomfortable because you were taking pics of his bootleg merchandise.

    Anyway, I´ll visit you again to read your figure reviews. ^^

    the only policy about cameras is that you musnt take pictures of cosplayers because they start to stop the people and then nobody can walk in the con, so they have a place called “salon del manga” where you can take any photos you want, you can take pictures booths or anything but COSPLAYERS and believe me I am agree with this policy

  31. Mario says:

    there is no such thing as NO photo policy at TNT, actually that causes some troubles at the dealers rooms since people stop the flow of people on the hallways, perhaps thats what it happen to you and did not catch it, one is free to take as much photos but some f the dealers that sell some original/local author stuff might fear copycats, but those are the least 😉
